American Traveler is seeking an experienced ED RN for a 13-week night shift contract at a Level I Trauma Center in Arizona, requiring at least 2 years of ER experience and Trauma Level I background.

Details

• Acute care Emergency Department at a Level I Trauma Center
• ED unit features 36 acute beds, 54 subacute beds, and 6 trauma bays (trauma bays not assigned to travelers)
• High-volume department seeing approximately 88,000 patients per year (250–300 per day)
• Patient population includes trauma, burns, cardiac (CP Center), spinal cord/TBI, and psychiatric holds (30–40 per shift)
• 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
• 12-hour night shifts
• 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week period, at unit discretion
• Holiday coverage based on unit needs
• Charting via Cerner EMR
• Telemetry monitoring using Philips monitors; ability to read strips required
• Ventilators managed by Respiratory Therapy
• RT and pharmacy available 24/7; pharmacist present in the ED 10 hours per day
• Minimum of 2 MDs on-site, up to 8; midlevels and anesthesia also utilized
• Supported by 2 charge RNs (light patient load or task-based) and 4 PCTs
• Float required between up to 4 ED locations within approximately 30 minutes of each other, including mid-shift floats

Requirements

• Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted — note: ENPC is not an accepted substitute for PALS
• TNCC and ATCN certifications preferred
• Minimum 2 years of ER experience required
• At least 6 months of Trauma Level I experience required
• Cerner EMR experience
• Ability to read telemetry strips (Philips monitors)
• Must pass a Relias Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to offer confirmation; two attempts allowed
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
• Must have personal vehicle for travel between float locations
• Natural hair color required; no facial piercings
• Men must be clean-shaven (for fit test compliance)

Additional Information

• 2–3 shift floor-specific orientation provided
• Pass/fail competency exam administered on Day 1 of orientation; a study guide is provided in advance
• SIMs Lab required for ED nurses, covering Foley catheter insertion and port-a-cath insertion; SIMs Lab is pass/fail and sterile field must be maintained — nurses have been terminated during SIMs Lab for breaking sterile field
• Additional orientation topics include lifts, restraints, and wound care (educational/informational only)
• Navy scrubs required
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
• Local candidates are not eligible for this position — travel pay rates require residing at least 50 miles from the facility
