Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Stepdown position at an acute care hospital in West Virginia, with ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required for a weekend night shift schedule.

Details

• Work in a 32-bed combined unit consisting of 22 stepdown beds and 10 floor beds in an acute care hospital setting
• Patient population includes cardiology, heart failure, cardiac surgery, and med-surg/hospitalist cases
• Stepdown nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3; floor assignment ratio is 1:5 or 1:6
• RNs are required to titrate drips including heparin, insulin, nitroglycerin, Cardizem, nicardipine, Lasix, amiodarone, and dobutamine
• Respiratory support equipment on the unit includes nasal cannula, CPAP, BiPAP, HFNC, and trach-to-vent; a dedicated RT is available for the floor
• Telemetry monitoring is handled by tele techs on adjacent units using Philips monitoring equipment
• EMR is Epic
• 12-hour night shifts: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Weekend requirement is every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for this position
• Self-scheduling via Kronos with block scheduling generally permitted
• Floating is required; travelers are first to be pulled and may rotate to the floor assignment approximately 1 out of every 3 shifts
• No on-call or standby requirement

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Cardiac experience strongly preferred
• Epic EMR experience beneficial
• Two professional references required: one supervisor reference and one peer reference (e.g., Charge RN); if the candidate held a permanent position in the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
• Copies of certifications and a valid driver's license required for consideration
• Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration
• Work history covering the past 7 years (or from graduation, whichever is less) with no gaps greater than 30 days required for consideration
• Any license history issues must be disclosed upfront

Additional Information

• Dedicated charge nurse is assigned to each shift, with a goal of a free charge; 3 house supervisors are present in the building at all times
• Clinical associates support the unit; overnight staffing typically runs at approximately 1:16, with a budget target of 1:8
• Holiday coverage is required for one of each paired holiday: Black Friday or Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve or New Year's Day
• Royal blue scrubs required
• Unit-specific orientation is provided
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from this WVU facility to be eligible for the travel position
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before returning
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than a cumulative total of one year before a 2-year break is required
