American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Float Pool position in the Colorado Springs zone, requiring 2 years of MS-Tele experience and the ability to float across multiple facilities within a 60-mile radius.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting with no single home base facility — travelers float across Zone 1, which includes multiple facilities within a 60-mile radius of Colorado Springs, CO
• Float pool covers a wide range of units including General MS-Tele, Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, Trauma, and ED Obs
• Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses such as cardiac, neuro, ortho, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery, gynecology, psych/detox, ENT, and general medicine
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6 based on acuity
• May be asked to float into other acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele
• Heparin drip titration is required
• RT equipment including vents, CPAP, and BiPAP is used on the unit
• EMR: Epic
• 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
• Schedule is set by leadership on a 6-week rotation; travelers are expected to be flexible and fill scheduling gaps
• Schedules are released 4–6 weeks in advance and may follow a single-facility weekly assignment or a Just-In-Time (JIT) format with facility assignment 1–2 hours before shift start
• 6–9 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active CO state RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
• Required certifications (all must be active, AHA-issued): BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of MS-Tele RN experience required
• Prior neuro experience preferred
• BSN not required
• Must permanently reside at least 60 miles from the Colorado Springs city center (the zone's geographic center) to qualify for the travel pay rate; a valid driver's license is used to verify permanent address
• Driver's license required for consideration
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

• Travelers must secure housing that allows them to float to any facility within the full 60-mile Zone 1 radius — this requirement applies regardless of where the traveler chooses to stay
• Zone 1 facilities are centered around Colorado Springs, CO and include locations ranging from 7 to 46 miles from the city center
• Candidates must be physically present in-state for the week of orientation, even if initial modules are completed remotely
• Designated charge nurses are on each unit; charge nurses typically do not take patient assignments, though night shift charge nurses may occasionally carry a small assignment
• Nurse aides are available on the unit
• All time-off requests must be submitted prior to starting the assignment
• Holiday rotation coverage may be required
• On-call or standby requirements are rare and typically only occur during low census
• Candidates may not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
