American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical/Oncology unit at a Level IV Trauma Center and major teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of experience and a WV or compact RN license.

Details

• 5S Medical Surgical/Oncology unit within a short-term acute care, Level IV Trauma Center and major teaching hospital (COTH member) with 838 total staffed beds
• 29-bed unit serving an adult population of medical and surgical oncology, palliative care, urology, and telemetry patients
• Patient ratios are 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM), weekdays and every other weekend required
• Contract options available for 36 or 48 hours per week
• Floating within scope may be required to meet facility needs
• Charting is performed in Cerner
• Free parking is available for travelers

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required; candidates with a pending RN license may be considered
• Current BLS certification required
• ONCC or ONS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Telemetry experience required
• Proficiency with central line draws, ports, blood administration, PCA pumps, bone marrow aspiration assist, and Pleurx chest tubes required
• Chemotherapy administration experience preferred; candidates without oncology experience may be considered if otherwise strong
• Two manager or charge nurse references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
• Driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
• Flu vaccine required during flu season (October 1 – March 31); medical exemption with documented allergist or physician record accepted

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include providing medical-surgical and oncological nursing care, supporting palliative care patients, and providing family education on oncological processes
• Candidates must reside beyond 100 miles from the facility to be eligible; candidates residing between 75–99 miles may be submitted for facility approval
• Former permanent employees of this health system are not eligible to return as travelers until at least 2 years after their last day of permanent employment
• Royal blue or white scrubs are required for RNs
• Holiday RTO requests should be limited to no more than 1 of the 3 major holidays
• The facility is open to accommodating blocked schedule requests
• COVID-19 vaccination is not required
