American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical Progressive Care Step-Down Unit position requiring critical care background, EKG interpretation skills, and Epic proficiency at a large academic Level I trauma center.

Details

• Work in a Surgical Progressive Care Step-Down Unit (PCU/DOU/IMC) at a large, short-term acute care academic teaching and Level I trauma center with 1,266 staffed beds
• Patient population includes abdominal transplant (kidney, liver, pancreas), hepatobiliary surgery (liver resection, Whipple, pancreatectomy), ENT surgery (fresh tracheostomy, laryngectomy, free flap, mandibulectomy, glossectomy), plastics and orthopedic microsurgery (digital/limb replant, flaps, leech therapy, nerve transfers), general surgery/trauma/geriatric trauma (GSW, MVC, polytrauma, TBI), and orthopedic cases (spinal fusion, hip replacement)
• Patient ratio is 1:3 on all shifts
• Night shift schedule: 4x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required within the service line, including to MS units, to meet facility needs
• Block scheduling is not available
• Charting is done in Epic; experience required
• Equipment used includes EKG machines, Philips central monitoring stations, bladder scanner, internal/external dopplers, SCDs, Hoyer lift (ceiling and portable), and CPAP/BiPAP

Requirements

• Active MO RN license or compact RN license valid in Missouri required at time of consideration
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required; 2 years preferred
• Critical care experience highly preferred
• EKG interpretation and dysrhythmia management required; candidates must pass a Relias EKG exam
• Experience with Epic EMR required
• Experience with telemetry/MS-tele and PCU/stepdown work settings required
• Skills required include blood product administration and isolation precautions
• BSN preferred
• Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted

Additional Information

• Daily responsibilities include cardiac ECG monitoring, drip titration (vasopressors, antiarrhythmics, antihypertensives, insulin, heparin), central line and arterial line management, tracheostomy and laryngectomy care, free flap and leech therapy management, frequent I&O monitoring, and phlebotomy
• Unit is supported by PRN Student Nurse Techs (SNTs)
• Navy scrubs are required
• Parking passes are available for purchase on a monthly basis; night shift workers may park at no charge in designated employee parking
• RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation
• Travelers may remain at this facility for up to 18 months, after which a 3-month break is required before returning
• Former permanent employees of any BJC facility must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
