Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Telemetry Step-Down position requiring an active MD or Compact license, with at least 2 years of experience caring for complex cardiac and respiratory patient populations.

Details

• Work setting is a hospital Step-Down/PCU unit with 27 beds and an average census of 26 patients
• Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses such as COPD, GI bleeding, end-stage renal disease, cardiac dysrhythmias, electrolyte imbalances, chronic ventilator dependency, and patients receiving peritoneal dialysis
• Specialized procedures include peritoneal dialysis and bedside thoracentesis
• Special equipment includes Viking lift, sit-to-stand, EKG, Zoll defibrillator, and VAC dressing
• Charting system is Epic (required)
• Patient ratio is 1:5
• Schedule is 3x12-hour day shifts (08:00–20:30), 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend is required
• Holiday coverage required as shifts fall on the schedule
• Floating is required within specialty sister units and lower acuity units as needed; travelers are first to float
• No pre-scheduled on-call shifts required
• 12-week contract

Requirements

• Active RN license for Maryland (MD state or Compact) required
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA only), ACLS (AHA only), CPI (Calm Every Storm online version accepted), and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Strong telemetry and step-down nursing skills required
• Experience with Epic EMR required
• Key clinical skills required include IV therapy, phlebotomy, port access/management, blood product administration, central and PICC line management, BiPAP/CPAP, care of ventilated patients, tracheostomy care, interpretation of dysrhythmias and ABGs, cardiac drip titration, heparin protocols, wound VAC, and IV insulin protocols
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Community hospital experience preferred
• LTAC experience preferred
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• 2 professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor/manager and 1 charge RN from most recent employer
• Candidates must reside 50+ miles from the facility to be eligible

• Responsibilities include managing a telemetry step-down patient population with complex cardiac, respiratory, renal, and GI needs
• Dark blue scrubs required
• First-time travelers will be considered only if they demonstrate strong relevant skills and experience
• Former travelers who have worked at this facility must have been away for at least 6 months before returning; former permanent staff of the UMMS health system must have been separated for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
• Pre-orientation modules are required and must be completed prior to the start date (approximately 6–8 hours, non-paid)
• Any time-off requests must be submitted at the time of initial consideration and cannot be changed or added after an offer is made; RTO should not exceed 7 days
• Floating is within the candidate's experience scope; no floating restrictions or special requests can be accommodated
