American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Acute Dialysis position requiring peritoneal dialysis experience and proficiency with Baxter Home Choice machines in an acute care hospital setting.

Details

• Acute care hospital dialysis setting, including treatment in a dedicated hemodialysis suite and ICU
• Patient population includes ESRD, acute renal failure, and peritoneal dialysis patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 2:1 in the acute hemodialysis suite and 1:1 in the ICU
• Heparin drip titration required; set-rate drips include amiodarone, cardizem, dobutamine, dopamine, and milrinone
• Telemetry monitoring in the acute suite with monitor techs reading strips; ICU patients on bedside and central monitoring
• Ventilators, high-flow oxygen, CPAP, and BiPAP are used in the ICU in conjunction with ICU RNs and RT
• Charting is performed using MEDITECH
• 12-hour shifts, primarily 7a–7:30p with possible rotational 11a–11:30p shifts as needed
• 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule (Friday night call, Saturday day/evening, Saturday night call, and Sunday day shifts count as weekend shifts)
• On-call requirement of one night per week and every other Sunday (maximum)
• First to float between two campuses approximately 16 minutes apart
• Holiday rotation with core staff required

Requirements

• Active TX RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Current BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS (AHA or APEX) certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of acute care dialysis nursing experience required
• Peritoneal dialysis experience required, including initiation, termination, site care, and catheter care
• Proficiency with Baxter Home Choice machines required
• Experience with AVF/AVG cannulation and CVC access required
• Competency in recognition and management of hemodialysis complications and emergencies required
• MEDITECH EMR experience preferred
• A driver's license must be provided for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include acute hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis care, AVF/AVG cannulation, CVC access, and management of dialysis-related emergencies
• May be asked to precept other staff as needed by the unit
• Orientation consists of one shift of paperwork and general orientation, followed by at least one shift of on-unit training
• Navy blue scrubs are required
• Call-outs are strongly discouraged and may result to termination
• Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
