American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU Float Pool RN for a 13-week night shift travel contract in the Colorado Springs, CO zone, requiring a minimum of 2 years ICU experience and the ability to float across multiple hospital campuses within a 60-mile radius.

• Acute care ICU float pool position covering Zone 1, which is centered around Colorado Springs, CO and spans a 60-mile radius
• Float zone includes multiple hospital campuses: Penrose Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center, St. Francis InterQuest, St. Mary Corwin, and St. Thomas More
• Combination ICU unit covering MICU, SICU, TICU, CVICU, and similar critical care environments
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1–2 depending on acuity; may be asked to flex to 1:3; high-acuity patients (e.g., CRRT, IABP, Impella) are staffed at 1:1
• Common patient population includes general critical care across combination ICU types
• RNs must be comfortable titrating all critical drips including pressors, sedation, paralytics, antiarrhythmics, heparin, and insulin
• Respiratory equipment includes ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, and breathing treatments; RNs are expected to assist with troubleshooting and managing respiratory needs
• No monitor tech on unit; RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips
• No nurse aides on unit; CNAs used for sitter needs only
• Designated charge nurse on each unit who typically does not take a patient assignment, though night shift charge nurses may occasionally carry a small assignment
• EMR: Epic (experience required for first-time travelers)
• 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• 6–9 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule
• Schedule is set by leadership for 6-week blocks; travelers are expected to be flexible and help fill scheduling gaps
• May be asked to float to other acuity levels including PCU/Stepdown and MS-Tele
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active CO RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
• Current AHA certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; pending certifications are not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• First-time travelers must have 3+ years of ICU experience and Epic EMR experience
• Must be proficient in titrating critical care drips
• Must be able to obtain housing within the Zone 1 float zone (60-mile radius of Colorado Springs city center) to meet float requirements
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• Must reside more than 60 miles from the Colorado Springs city center (the zone's center point) to qualify for travel pay rates; DL is used to verify permanent address

Additional Information

• This is a float pool position with no home base facility; specific float assignment is communicated on or before the Monday start date of each schedule cycle
• Travelers are expected to be available to float to any campus within Zone 1 throughout their assignment, regardless of personal housing location
• All time-off requests must be submitted prior to starting the assignment
• May be asked to participate in the holiday rotation
• On-call/standby requirements are rare and typically related to low census
• Orientation is 1–2 days with a preceptor (approximately 12 hours); clinicians must be physically present in state for the week of orientation even if initial modules are completed remotely
• Scrubs: any color
• Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply provided they meet the elevated experience and Epic requirements
