American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Tele/PCU position at a Level II Trauma acute care hospital, requiring PCU experience and the ability to read and interpret cardiac strips.

• 32-bed Med/Tele/PCU stepdown unit in an acute care hospital setting with Level II Trauma designation
• Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses such as cardiac cath, EP studies, pacers, ETOH, COVID on BiPAP, general surgical with cardiac history, pneumonia, sepsis, influenza, and acute on chronic conditions
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5, with occasional 1:5-6 on nights; PCU-level overflow care on the unit at 1:3
• RNs are required to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitroglycerin, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine
• RT equipment on the unit includes BiPAP, trachs, and Airvo; RNs are responsible for managing and troubleshooting these devices
• RNs are required to read and interpret their own cardiac strips; portable tele monitors, in-room monitors, and a tech at the nurses station are available
• 12-hour day and night shifts (7a-7p / 7p-7a); rotating shifts will not occur more than once per week
• Schedule is manager-assigned; blocked scheduling may be considered based on unit needs
• Every other weekend required
• Every other holiday required
• First to float; floating includes all areas as helping hands, full PCU patient load, full MS patient assignment, and some ER holds/boarding
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Charting is done in Epic; experience preferred but not required
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• PCU experience is required
• Tele/cardiac nursing experience required
• Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips required
• Driver's license required for consideration
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• BSN is not required

Additional Information

• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• Candidates who are currently or have been within the past year directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, are not eligible — candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
• Orientation consists of 2 twelve-hour shifts on the Friday and Saturday of the first week, with independent practice beginning that Sunday
• Any requested time off (RTO) must be submitted upfront; no more than 7 days per 13-week contract will be approved, and no additional RTO will be approved after consideration
• Charge nurses are present on both shifts and may occasionally carry a light patient load of 2-3 patients
• Nurse aides/patient care techs are available on the unit with a target ratio of 1:10
• Any color scrubs are acceptable
