Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week PICU travel assignment in Wisconsin, requiring at least 1 year of PICU experience and the ability to manage intubated patients, drips, and complex pediatric critical care cases on night shift.

Details

• 8-bed PICU within a Level 2 Trauma, acute care hospital setting
• Patient population includes respiratory, DKA, trauma (MVA and head trauma), surgical, neuro/seizure, overdose, and suicide cases — ECMO is not performed on this unit
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1 or 1:2 depending on acuity
• RNs are required to titrate drips, including cardiac, insulin, heparin, and sedation drips
• RNs draw their own labs and independently read and interpret telemetry strips — no monitor techs on the unit
• Respiratory equipment in use includes vents, CPAP, BiPAP, NAVA, Vapotherm, and Heliox
• Charting is done in Cerner, with a transition to Epic anticipated
• 12-hour night shifts
• Self-scheduling in a tiered approach — block scheduling is not permitted
• Every other weekend required
• Every other holiday required
• No call or standby requirement
• Floating may occur within Peds; may float to NICU with relevant experience, and to adult areas as an observer based on census

Requirements

• Active WI or Compact RN license required by start date
• Current BLS (AHA) and PALS (AHA) certifications required; TNCC is preferred but not required
• Minimum 1 year of PICU experience required
• Experience with intubated patients, sedation management, ICP monitoring, EVDs, drip titration, and emergency situations required
• 2 professional references required: 1 supervisor reference within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from the same specialty within the last 3 years

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Travel duos are accepted — duo partners will be scheduled on the same weekends but cannot share the same schedule
• Candidates who previously worked for this health system as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their start date, and hospital approval is required
• Candidates living within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and will receive an adjusted pay rate
• Orientation consists of 1 day of general hospital orientation and 2 days of unit-specific orientation (8 hours total)
• Charge nurses take patient assignments and are given a modified load when possible — no nurse aides on the unit
• An intensivist is not in-house but lives within 10 minutes; residents are available in-house 24/7
• Scrubs should be clean, professional, and peds-appropriate
