American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level IV Trauma Center and teaching hospital in Milwaukee, WI, requiring 3 years of fast-paced ED experience and a full certification stack including TNCC.

Details

• Work in a 35-bed Emergency Department with 6 additional fast track rooms at a 228-bed Level IV Trauma Center, Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center, and academic teaching hospital in Milwaukee, WI
• Patient population spans neonate to geriatrics, with all ED diagnoses including a heavy mental health population, invasive neuro and STEMI cases (stabilized and transferred), and trauma cases including GSW, stabbings, falls, and MVC
• Patient ratios are 1:4 (acuity-based) on day and night shifts, and 1:6 in fast track
• Average of 168 patients seen per day
• 12-hour day shifts, 0700–1930, 36 hours per week; mid-week shifts may run 1100–2300 and weekend shifts 1500–0300
• Every other weekend rotation required
• Holiday coverage required for every other major holiday
• No on-call or call-back responsibilities
• No floating required
• EMR: Epic (experience required); also uses Alaris pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing

Requirements

• Active WI or Compact RN license required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC
• Minimum 3 years of ED experience in a fast-paced emergency department setting; most recent experience must be within the last year
• Skills required: cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV insertion, basic critical care drip knowledge and medication administration, TPA administration, blood administration, procedural sedation, and code blue experience
• NIHSS experience required — certification cannot be obtained prior to start date
• Triage experience strongly preferred
• Former employees of Advocate Health or any of its subsidiaries must have been separated for at least 12 months to be eligible
• At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the past year required for consideration
• Candidate DOB and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Orientation consists of 2 twelve-hour shifts on the unit
• Administer and monitor critical care medications, perform triage, manage trauma patients, and respond to code blue situations
• Unit is a locked facility with security stationed at the ED lobby entrance
• Central and bedside telemetry monitoring available on the unit
• Robust support staff available 24/7, including unit secretary, ED techs, charge nurse, phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, ED physicians, mid-level providers, and security
• Additional support from OT, PT, ST, and an ED Educator
• Any color professional scrubs are acceptable
• Free parking available in designated employee areas

• First-time travelers may be considered on a case-by-case basis with strong ED experience
