American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Level 2 Trauma facility in Nebraska, requiring at least 2 years of experience, ACLS and NIHSS certifications, and Epic proficiency on 12-hour night shifts.

Details

• Stepdown/PCU unit in an acute care hospital setting with 35 beds
• Adult and geriatric patient population with diagnoses including cardiac, nephrology, stroke, diabetes, and conditions requiring continuous EEG monitoring
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5, supported by patient care techs at a 1:10 ratio
• RNs are required to titrate drips, including Cardizem, beta-blockers, and seizure medications
• Charting is performed in Epic
• 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
• Every other weekend required
• Every third holiday required
• Floating may be required to medical floors, ICU, or rehab
• No on-call or standby requirement
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• PCU or stepdown unit experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility; a valid driver's license is required for consideration and will be used to verify permanent address
• Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Orientation consists of onboarding during the first week followed by 1–2 days of floor-specific orientation
• RNs must pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%; failure to pass results in contract termination
• This is a fast-paced unit where strong communication, critical thinking, a positive attitude, and problem-solving skills are key to success
• A charge nurse is present on each shift
• Artificial nails are strictly prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result to contract termination
• RTO must be requested upfront and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
• Candidates who were employed PRN through outside staffing firms at CommonSpirit facilities may still be considered
