American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift travel contract at a Level II Trauma facility, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Details

• ICU setting within an acute care hospital designated as a Level II Trauma Center
• 33-bed ICU unit with an average daily census of 16 patients
• Patient population includes trauma, cardiac, stroke, sepsis, overdose/substance abuse, post-stent, pacemaker placement, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2-3 for adult patients
• RNs are required to titrate drips, including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
• Respiratory support ranges from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilation; RNs are expected to troubleshoot RT equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPap, and high-flow
• RNs are required to read, interpret, and document cardiac monitor strips; GE monitor brand with tele tech oversight
• Charting performed in Epic (experience required)
• 12-hour night shifts (18:30–06:30)
• Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) required
• Minimum of 2 holidays that fall within the contract period are required
• Floating may be required to PCU or occasionally Med/Surg, with typical ratios of 1:4–1:5 on those units
• If placed on call and called back in, a 30-minute arrival time is required
• Nurse aides are available based on census and may assist with 1:1 sits or floor support; a Healthcare Support Tech is available 3 days per week (Mon–Fri, 08:00–16:30)

Requirements

• Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted
• Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; pending certifications will not be accepted
• Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Ability to titrate drips and manage patients on mechanical ventilation and other RT equipment
• Valid driver's license required for consideration
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (permanent address as shown on driver's license used to verify)
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered

Additional Information

• Provide critical care nursing to a diverse adult ICU population including trauma and cardiac patients
• Unit orientation consists of 1 department-specific shift
• A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered on Wednesdays during orientation; a minimum score of 90% is required to pass
• Artificial nails are strictly prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination
• Block scheduling is not approved except for weekend-only blocks; duo scheduling with shared schedules or shared transportation is not accommodated
• RTO must be requested upfront and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after consideration
