American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of high-acuity PICU experience and Epic proficiency.

Details

• 24-bed Pediatric ICU with an average daily census of 21–23 patients
• Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center within an academic teaching hospital
• Patient population includes respiratory illness, trauma (including penetrating and non-accidental trauma), DKA, seizures, neurosurgical cases, acute/chronic renal failure, orthopedic, surgical, transplants (kidney and whole/partial liver), complex medical, and blood disorders
• Patient ratios vary by acuity: 2:1, 1:1, or 1:2
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM, 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation requires working 2 Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays within each 6-week scheduling cycle
• Holiday coverage is required
• Floating required to Pediatric CVICU, NICU, Neonatal PCU, and general/progressive pediatric units as needed
• No on-call requirements for travelers
• EMR: Epic (experience required)
• Equipment includes Belmont Rapid Infuser, Arctic Sun, Camino ICP/temp monitoring device, EV-1000 Vigileo, Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Philips monitors, Accuvein, PIV ultrasound, I-Stat, and Accuryn

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Current BLS and PALS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of high-acuity Pediatric ICU experience, with most recent experience within the last year
• Experience with Epic EMR required
• Proficiency with critical care skills including vasoactive drip titration, invasive line management (arterial lines, CVP), ventilator and trach management, CRRT, chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, sedation/analgesic drip management, and Foley insertion
• Experience with specialized equipment including Arctic Sun, EVDs, Camino device, and Belmont Rapid Infuser
• Competency with g-tube/j-tube management, feeding tubes, oral/nasal suctioning, HOFV management, aseptic and sterile techniques, and basic dressing changes
• Ability to float to Pediatric CVICU (assessed during interview)
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
• At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

• Unit support includes a CNA/health care tech, unit secretary, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, resource nurse, respiratory therapy, intensivist, residents, and APPs — all available 24/7
• Bedside and centralized cardiac monitoring in place; no telemetry monitoring tech
• Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Schedule is managed in 6-week cycles; RTO requires manager approval
• Navy scrubs required
