American Traveler is seeking an experienced Geriatric Psych RN for a night shift, inpatient geriatric psychiatry position requiring a minimum of 2 years of adult inpatient psych experience and an active MA RN license.

Details

• Inpatient geriatric psychiatry unit (Epstein 3) within a hospital setting
• Patient population consists of geriatric adults presenting with a wide range of mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and dual diagnosis/detox patients, as well as some medically acute patients requiring IV therapy, CPAP, wound care, and diabetic care
• RN-to-patient ratio of 1:7 or 1:8
• Night shift hours: 19:00–07:30
• Every other weekend (EOW) required
• 36 hours per week
• Floating required
• Rotation to day shifts required for day rotate positions (7a–7p, 11a–11p, 7p–7a); rotation not required for the night shift position
• EMR: Epic

Requirements

• Active MA RN license required; no pending or conditional licenses accepted
• AHA BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of inpatient adult psychiatric nursing experience
• Proficiency with automatic medication dispensing systems (Omnicell)
• Proficiency with psychotropic medications and their side effects
• Ability to function in a charge nurse role and independently complete admissions and discharges
• Competency with IV pumps and care of diabetic patients
• 2 professional references required for consideration
• Flu vaccine required; no religious or medical exemptions accepted

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include psychiatric nursing care for geriatric adults, including medication management, charge nurse duties, and managing admissions and discharges
• Knowledge of Massachusetts Department of Mental Health rules and regulations required, including patient rights related to restraint and seclusion, legal statuses, guardianship, healthcare proxy, and court-ordered medication
• AVADE (de-escalation/safety) training and lead EKG training are offered on-site
• Timekeeping system: UKG/Kronos
