American Traveler is seeking an experienced oncology RN for a night shift travel position at a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital, with chemotherapy certification and Epic experience required.

Details

• Outpatient oncology unit with 8 infusion treatment chairs, operating 24/7
• Unit also includes 7 private rooms/beds for isolation patients and provider-led evaluations for Hematologic Malignancy, Medical Oncology, and Gynecologic Oncology patients
• Evaluation patients are treated in the department and either discharged home post-treatment or admitted to inpatient; patients may be held in the department for over 24 hours awaiting an inpatient bed
• Patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:3–4
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
• 4 weekend shifts required per contract, with flexibility based on unit need
• Floating within scope required to meet facility needs
• Block scheduling is not available for this position
• Procedures include chemotherapy/biotherapy, blood transfusions, injections, IV fluids, electrolyte replacement, EKGs, phlebotomy, and blood glucose monitoring
• Charting is done in Epic; experience with Epic is required
• Facility is a short-term acute care Magnet and teaching hospital with Level I Trauma designation and 1,266 staffed beds
• Scrub color: Navy Blue
• Parking is available at $15/day or $70/month

Requirements

• Active MO RN license or compact RN license valid in Missouri required; candidates with a pending IL license may be considered with a note
• Current BLS certification required
• Chemotherapy certification through ONS or ONCC required
• Minimum 1 year of oncology RN experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Proficiency in biotherapy and chemotherapy administration, including recognizing and managing side effects and communicating abnormal lab values
• Skills required include: accessing and managing ports, central line blood draws, PICC line care, central line/implanted line care, blood/blood product administration, infusion pump management, starting IVs, and administration of coagulation factors, antifungals, antivirals, antiemetics, antibiotics, corticosteroids, Neupogen, and IV push narcotic agents
• Experience with neutropenic and isolation precautions, telemetry monitoring, and symptom management (including nausea/vomiting, neuropathy, altered mental status, dysphagia, edema, constipation/diarrhea, and skin/mucous membrane changes)
• Ability to provide patient and family education and support

Additional Information

• OCN or ONS/ONCC certification is preferred
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility; local candidates will not be considered
• Travelers may remain at BJC facilities for up to 18 months, after which a 3-month break in service is required
• Former permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler
• RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation
• Overnight hours involve completing infusion room treatments and managing patient evaluations through the night
