American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg ICU position at a Level I Trauma facility, requiring a minimum of 2 years of recent ICU experience and an active NE or Compact RN license.

Details

• Fast-paced Med/Surg ICU unit within a Level I Trauma, acute care hospital serving as the primary tertiary hospital for the system
• 34-bed unit serving adult and pediatric patients (15+ years old) with diagnoses including respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure, GI bleeds, neuro surgery, general surgery, and cancer-specific surgeries
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1-2 (ICU), 1:4-5 (PCU), and 1:5-6 (Med/Surg)
• RNs are required to titrate drips, including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
• Specialized equipment includes CVPs, A-lines, Swans, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll Thermoguard, Bell Mont rapid transfuser, and ventilators through nasal cannula; training available for less common procedures
• Charting via Epic EMR
• Draeger heart monitoring with centralized telemetry; RNs must be able to independently read and interpret cardiac strips
• 12-hour day shifts, 0630–1830; schedule determined by manager based on unit needs
• Every other weekend required; 2 out of 3 major holidays or every other holiday as determined by unit needs
• Floating required to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; all must be active — pending certifications are not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
• Ability to independently read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
• Driver's license required for consideration and used to verify residence outside the 50-mile radius
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years; both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
• Candidates who are currently or were recently (within the past year) employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility — including CHI and Dignity — are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
• A pass/fail, open-book exam on unit skills is administered on the Friday of orientation; a minimum score of 90% is required to pass
• Unit orientation consists of 2 shifts of department-specific training
• An interview with unit leaders is required
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination
• Navy blue scrubs required
• RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
• Charge nurse is present on each shift, attends Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) and codes, and does not take a patient assignment
• Nurse aides/patient care techs are available at a 1:18 ratio
• Collaborative team environment working alongside attendings, fellows, and residents to deliver high-quality patient care
