American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week travel contract on a Med/Surg PCU/Tele Neuro Trauma unit, requiring at least 2 years of MS, PCU, or ICU experience and trach/vent competency.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting on a 28-bed Med/Surg PCU/Tele Neuro Trauma unit (5N)
• Neuro-focused patient population including strokes, seizures, Guillain-Barré, myasthenia gravis, spinal injuries, thrombectomies, TNK/TPA post-24 hours, endovascular neuro specialties, AMS, and dementia; also trauma/ortho patients including hematomas, bleeds, falls on blood thinners, and farm/MVA accidents
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Every other weekend required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Typically 2–3 holidays during winter; otherwise every other holiday
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4–5 on days, 1:5–6 on nights, dependent on acuity
• Nurse aide support available: 1:9 ratio on days, 1:12 on nights
• RNs are required to titrate drips, including Heparin, Nitroglycerin, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, 3% saline, and Insulin
• RT equipment in use includes vents, trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, Vapotherm, and EtCO2 monitoring
• Telemetry monitoring is centrally located off the unit; RNs should be prepared to manage accordingly
• Charting system is Cerner (transitioning to Epic)
• Floating required to sister Med/Surg units across 6 specialties, including mixed care, cardiac, general, MS ortho, and heme/onc
• Self-scheduling with manager balancing; schedule opens 6 weeks in advance
• No on-call or standby requirement
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
• Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU experience required
• Experience in the relevant care setting within the last year is required
• Drip titration experience required
• Trach and vent experience strongly preferred; willingness to train on vents is acceptable if the candidate is open to learning
• BSN not required
• 2 professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from the relevant specialty within the last 3 years

• Former permanent staff of this facility must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their application date, and hospital approval is required
• Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local, which may affect travel pay eligibility
• Orientation consists of 1 general shift and 1 shift with a preceptor (8 hours total)
• Any solid color scrubs are acceptable
• Travel duo shift matching cannot be guaranteed
