American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a MedSurg/Tele position at an acute care hospital in Arizona, requiring at least 2 years of experience, telemetry strip interpretation skills, and an active AZ or Compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting on a 48-bed MedSurg/Tele unit (4A and 4B) on the 4th floor
• Patient population includes COVID, respiratory, GI, diabetic, telemetry, TIA, CVA, and general, orthopedic, and spinal surgical patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 with Nurse Aides available at a 1:10–15 ratio
• Telemetry is monitored remotely by tele techs on the 3rd floor; RNs are required to interpret strips and sign off at least once per shift
• Respiratory equipment includes BiPAP, CPAP, high flow oxygen, and breathing treatments
• Diltiazem administered at a set rate; drip titration is not required
• Charting is done via Cerner EMR
• 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break
• Every other weekend (EOW) requirement; 2 weekends per 4-week schedule
• Travelers are first to float and may float to the East Campus or PCU (if qualified)
• Self-scheduling is used; schedules are finalized by the manager every 4 weeks

Requirements

• Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Active certifications required: BLS and ACLS; pending certifications are not accepted
• Experience reading and interpreting basic telemetry strips required
• Experience with general and orthopedic surgical patients, as well as CVA and TIA patients required
• Cerner EMR experience strongly recommended due to limited orientation time
• A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

• Orientation consists of 1 shift (12 hours) on the unit; Cerner experience is strongly recommended given the limited orientation period
• Charge nurses do not take patient assignments; both a charge nurse and house supervisor are available for support
• RNs are required to pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) before an offer can be confirmed
• On the first day of orientation, RNs are given a pass/fail skills test on sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
• Holiday coverage is expected for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day — travelers are expected to work a combination of 2 days and 1 evening or 2 evenings and 1 day across those holidays
• Navy blue scrubs are required
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (permanent address as shown on driver's license) to be eligible for travel pay rates
• Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
