American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring at least 2 years of L&D experience, active ME or compact RN license, and prior travel experience at a comparable facility.

• 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) in a hospital Labor & Delivery unit
• The unit includes 7 labor rooms, 2 triage rooms, 2 OR suites, a PreOp/PACU area within labor rooms, and an adjacent 25-bed Postpartum/Antepartum/GYN/Mother-Baby unit
• Facility performs approximately 1,800 deliveries per year and typically schedules 4 operative events daily (C-sections, versions, etc.)
• Patient types include PIH, GDM, Pre-Eclampsia, Eclampsia, HELLP, shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, multiples, fetal loss, drug addiction, and cervical ripening cases
• Associated Level III NICU; facility serves as one of only two NICU referral centers in Maine and covers a large regional geographic area
• Patient ratios: cervical ripening and laboring 1:1–3, active labor 1:1, couplet/postpartum/antepartum up to 3 couplets or 3 antepartum/NICU moms
• EMR: Cerner with Fetal Link; IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis; fetal monitoring: Fetal Link (remote at bedside and nurses station)
• 36 hours per week on a rotating schedule
• Weekend rotation: at least 4 of every 8 weekend shifts per schedule (shifts may be back-to-back)
• No on-call required, though optional call pickup may be available
• Holiday coverage required on a rotating basis
• Floating may occur to Mother-Baby for antepartum, postpartum, or occasional newborn nursery support (24-hour labs performed by nursery RN staff)

Requirements

• Active ME or compact RN license required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM), and MOAB
• Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required
• Prior travel assignment at a facility of comparable size and acuity required; first-time travelers will not be considered
• Proficiency in Pitocin titration, fetal scalp electrode placement, cervical exams, epidural placement assistance, insulin drip management, magnesium drip management, shoulder dystocia management, circulating C-sections and/or receiving baby in the OR, neonatal resuscitation, IUPC placement assistance and monitoring, and newborn/lactation support
• Flu vaccination required for employment eligibility (medical exemptions considered on a case-by-case basis with advance notice)
• Candidates must have a permanent address 100+ miles south/southwest of the facility to be eligible
• Candidates must not have previously worked at any Northern Light Health hospital in a permanent capacity
• Required documentation for consideration: 2 professional references within the past year (at least one from a supervisor, manager, director, or charge nurse — no peer references), copies of all certifications, and a valid driver's license

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include full L&D nursing care: labor support, fetal monitoring, operative event participation, newborn care for babies remaining on the unit, and lactation support
• When a mother remains on the L&D unit for continuous surveillance (e.g., Mag drip for 24 hours), the L&D RN is responsible for documenting feeds, vitals, and assessments for the newborn
• Candidates with charge nurse (CRN) experience are encouraged to note this during the application process
• Unit support includes a unit secretary and bed flow facilitator on days, a CST in-house 24/7, charge nurse 24/7, phlebotomist, anesthesia 24/7, house supervisor 24/7, RT 24/7, OB provider on-call 24/7, certified midwife, family medicine residents with attending backup 24/7, and remote fetal monitoring at bedside and nurses station
• Orientation consists of approximately 3 days: one day with HR/preceptor, one day of OR/PACU training, and one day with a preceptor on the contracted shift
• Navy scrubs are provided on-site via scrub machine (worn on-site only; street clothes worn to and from the facility)
