American Traveler is seeking an experienced ED RN for a 13-week travel contract at a Level III Trauma Center in Puyallup, WA, requiring 2 years of ED experience and certifications including BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS, and CPI/MOAB.

• Work in a 46-bed ED within a 375-licensed-bed Level III Trauma Center in Puyallup, WA
• High-acuity patient population ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics, including trauma, GSW, sepsis, STEMI, stroke (TNK), DKA, adult psych, mental health, and respiratory cases
• High geriatric volume with a focus on falls and STEMI; small pediatric volume, with complex pediatric cases typically transferred out
• No invasive neurosurgical procedures (e.g., craniotomies) performed in this unit
• Average daily census of approximately 200 patients
• Patient ratio of 1:4–5, with flexibility to 5 based on acuity and staffing
• Unit includes 5 designated safe psych rooms and a Fast Track area
• 12-hour mid/night shifts with start times of 1500 or 1900; shift assignment may vary week to week
• Weekend scheduling varies based on unit needs; no on-call requirements
• Charting via Epic; equipment includes Alaris pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and central/bedside telemetry monitoring at the nursing station (no tele tech)
• No floating required

Requirements

• Active WA RN license or compact RN license (pending license with proof of application date accepted)
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS, and CPI/MOAB
• Minimum 2 years of ED nursing experience required
• Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV skills, procedural sedation, blood administration, and ED medication/drip administration
• TNK administration experience preferred
• Traveler Telemetry Competency exam must be completed and passed prior to start
• Two professional references from a supervisor or above (Charge Nurse, Manager, Director, etc.) required prior to start; one reference accepted at time of consideration

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Orientation includes an initial day covering badge setup, Epic training (if needed), time with the ED educator, and hours in the mental health area and front-of-house; followed by a 12-hour precepted shift on the assigned shift on day two
• Strong unit support structure includes ER techs, a charge nurse, resource/float nurse, RT (24/7), ED educator, house supervisor (24/7), social work (24/7), pharmacy (24/7 for sedation and code assistance), and dedicated 24/7 security
• Holiday coverage required for 2 of 5 major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day
• Schedule is provided 3 weeks at a time, distributed approximately 10 days before the schedule begins; RTO requests are subject to nurse manager approval
• Any professional scrub color is acceptable; modest piercings (studs only) and non-offensive tattoos are permitted
