American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg, Telemetry, and PCU Float Pool position at an acute care hospital in Arizona, requiring at least 2 years of RN experience and PCU setting experience.

• Float pool covers MedSurg Tele and PCU units across two campuses, including inpatients holding in the ED
• West Campus PCU (Stepdown) has 14 double-occupancy rooms with an average census of 20; West MedTele has 95 beds divided into 4 areas; MedSurg is organized into 10-room double-occupancy pods
• East Campus is a smaller, easy-to-navigate campus with ICU and stepdown patients in a 10-bed double-occupancy unit
• Patient population includes geriatric, orthopedic, post-procedural cardiac patients (post-MI, post-cath, post-CABG day 3–4), and groin site management in the stepdown unit
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: PCU 1:4, MedSurg Tele 1:5–6
• RNs are required to titrate drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin
• Respiratory equipment includes CPAP and BiPAP in MedSurg; BiPAP, CPAP, and Heated High Flow in PCU
• Monitor techs cover PCU and MedSurg Tele; RNs must be able to independently interpret cardiac rhythm strips
• Charting is performed in Cerner
• 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
• Every other weekend required
• Travelers are first to float; unit assignments are communicated via text message approximately 2 hours before shift start
• The two campuses are approximately 20–25 minutes apart
• No on-call or standby requirement

Requirements

• Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• At least 1 year of PCU setting experience required
• Proficiency titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips (Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Insulin)
• Ability to independently interpret cardiac rhythm strips
• Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam with a score of 80% or higher within two attempts prior to contract confirmation
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• A valid driver's license is required for consideration
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (permanent address as shown on driver's license)

Additional Information

• Travelers must be comfortable managing and titrating the majority of cardiac and vasoactive drips used on the unit
• Each unit has a dedicated charge nurse who does not take a patient assignment; nursing aides are utilized across all settings
• Orientation consists of an 8-hour general hospital orientation day, a 12-hour shift on West MedTele, and a 12-hour shift on the West PCU
• A sterile technique skills test (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) is administered on the first day of orientation
• Travelers must be flexible with scheduling; the float pool scheduler builds the schedule, published 6 weeks out; night shift will attempt to accommodate block scheduling
• Travelers are included in the permanent staff holiday rotation
• Current dress code is solid-color professional scrubs; will transition to navy scrubs in October per updated guidelines
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
