American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Hospice/Palliative Care field position in the Milwaukee area, requiring at least 2 years of RN experience and working every Saturday and Sunday on a 12-hour day shift schedule.

Details

• Field-based (remote/community) hospice setting serving patients in their homes, family member homes, assisted living facilities, group homes, nursing homes, and occasionally inpatient hospital settings
• Patient population consists of hospice/end-of-life patients with a life expectancy of 6 months or less; approximately 40% oncology and 60% other diagnoses
• Visit types include daily end-of-life visits, PRN visits for symptom management, and occasional stable routine visits
• This is not a case management role and does not carry a traditional caseload; field RNs complete approximately 5–6 visits per 12-hour shift
• 12-hour day shift (8:00 AM – 8:00 PM), every Saturday and Sunday
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• No floating requirements
• EMR: Epic Hyperspace/ClinDoc or Remote Client, dependent on cost center; Epic experience preferred

Requirements

• Active WI RN license or a compact RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience in hospice or palliative care required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Proficiency in IV skills, chest tube maintenance/pleurex drain management, catheter insertion, tube feedings, wound care, and wound VAC
• Experience with PIV, midline, and central line management
• Competency in end-of-life care including both pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical pain and symptom management
• Experience with opioids and opioid equianalgesic dosing
• Strong triage, critical thinking, and independent problem-solving skills
• One professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the past year required for consideration
• Candidate's middle name or initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include conducting end-of-life visits, managing symptom control, performing clinical procedures (wound care, IV management, blood draws including peripheral and port access), and documenting in Epic
• Support resources include office staff, a team lead, hospice manager, nurse educator, and preceptor; hospice physicians and patient attending physicians are available
• Orientation includes equipment pickup (laptop, PPE, trunk supplies), online training, Epic training, and precepted field visits
• Orientation may require reporting to the inpatient hospice facility in Wauwatosa, WI
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Holiday coverage required only when holidays fall on a weekend
