American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Oncology/Hematology position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring APHON chemo certification and pediatric acute care experience.

Details

• Work in a 16-bed Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (PHO) unit and a 16-bed Pediatric Adolescent Medicine (PA) unit, with an average of 14–32 patients per day
• Patient population includes leukemia, solid tumors, sickle cell crisis, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, behavioral health overlay, and general adolescent medicine
• Patient ratios: 1:3–4 on Peds Hem/Oncology and 1:4–5 on Peds Adolescent Medicine; CNA ratio is 1:6–16
• Common procedures include central line management and chemotherapy administration
• EMR is Epic; IV pumps are Alaris; medication dispensing via Omnicell; bedside telemetry monitoring (no telemetry tech available)
• 12-hour day shifts, 7a–7p, 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation every other weekend; no on-call requirement
• Floating required routinely between PA, PHO, and other units within the Brenner Children's building (excluding Peds ED)
• Schedule cycle runs every 6 weeks

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• BLS required for both PHO and PA units; PALS preferred for both
• APHON chemotherapy certification required for the PHO unit
• Minimum 1 year of pediatric hematology/oncology acute care experience required for PHO placement
• Minimum 1 year of pediatric acute care experience required for PA placement
• Most recent experience must be within the last year
• Proficiency in central line management, chemo administration, and strong pediatric assessment and critical thinking skills required
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

• Facility is an 885-bed Level 1 Trauma academic medical center with a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
• Departmental support includes CNAs, a receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, resource nurse (availability varies), RT (24/7), Hospitalist (24/7), and Intensivist (24/7)
• Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
• Scrub color is royal blue; pediatric-appropriate scrub tops are permitted
• Free parking is available on site

• First-time travelers with a strong pediatric background will be considered
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
• Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
