American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Whole House Float ICU/PCU/MS position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring comfort working all three specialties and a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience.

• Float position covering ICU, PCU, and Med-Surg (MS) units — candidate must be comfortable working all three specialties
• 703-bed acute care Magnet-designated teaching hospital affiliated with a medical school
• Level I Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatrics)
• ICU patient ratio averages 2:1; PCU averages 5:1; MS averages 6:1 (may flex up to 7:1)
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
• 13-week contract
• Epic EMR experience required
• Staffing needs are re-evaluated every 4 hours — traveler may float between units 2–3 times per shift
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
• One holiday shift required per 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only if candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience in a large Level I or Level II trauma facility
• Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC line management, central line care, arterial line management, and blood product administration
• Skilled in trach management and non-invasive/invasive airway support including nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, ventilator management, and chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac)
• Proficient in cardiac monitoring, continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Epic EMR experience required
• Copy of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
• Two professional references required for consideration

Additional Information

• Candidate must be comfortable managing patients across ICU, PCU, and MS units and have experience with ratios up to 6:1 or higher
• Candidate must be prepared for frequent unit changes — floating may occur up to every 4 hours within a single shift
• All RTO, block scheduling, and special scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of application
