Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric PACU position at an acute care children's hospital in West Virginia, requiring at least 2 years of experience and active ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications.

Details

• Acute care pediatric hospital setting, specifically a Pediatric PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)
• 12-bed PACU and 12-bed pre-op unit serving a pediatric patient population
• Travelers cover both Phase 1 and Phase 2 PACU, as well as pre-op
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1 in Phase 1, 1:2 in Phase 2, and 1:3–5 in pre-op
• Perioperative care assistants are available on the unit (one at night, 1:2 ratio in pre/post)
• Common cases include T&A, BVTs, gastroscopies, laparoscopic appendectomies, urology, and orthopedic procedures
• BiPAP equipment is used on occasion
• RNs are required to read cardiac strips
• Charting is done in Epic
• Rotating 10-hour shifts: nights (9:00 PM–7:30 AM) and evenings (11:00 AM–9:30 PM)
• 16–24 combined weeknight and weekend call hours required per month, self-scheduled by the RN
• 8 hours of summer holiday call required
• Call response time is 1 hour
• No floating required
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active WV RN license or a compact RN license currently in hand
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and PALS
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Pre/post (PACU or perioperative) nursing experience required
• Pediatric nursing experience required
• Epic EMR experience
• Floor nursing experience preferred but not required
• Submission documents required: driver's license, copies of all certifications, a skills checklist completed within the past year, and 2 references (at least 1 supervisor reference)

Additional Information

• PACU RNs also perform pre-op duties as part of their assignment
• Unit orientation is 2 days
• Scrubs are assigned and accessed via a ScrubEx machine in the hospital upon hire
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before being eligible to apply
• Travelers may not work within the WVU Medicine system for longer than one cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
