American Traveler is hiring a travel LPN/LVN with at least 1 year of experience and phlebotomy skills for a 13-week assignment on an acute addiction rehabilitation unit requiring BLS and de-escalation training.

Details

• Work in an acute care addiction rehabilitation unit (4th floor) at an inpatient psychiatric facility in the Bronx, NY
• Unit serves adult patients (18+) in voluntary detox and rehabilitation from substances including alcohol, crack cocaine, and PCP
• Unit capacity is 23 patients; no formal nurse-to-patient ratios as the unit is voluntary and staffed primarily by counselors
• LPNs are responsible for assessing detox symptoms, administering medications, and addressing any medical issues that arise
• IVs are not routinely used on this unit; IV access may be initiated only in the event of a medical emergency
• EKGs are performed by nursing staff as needed; no RT or tele monitor techs on unit
• No physical restraints used; patients who cannot follow unit rules are discharged
• Charting is performed using Allscripts EMR
• 8-hour day shifts
• Every other weekend required
• One winter holiday and one summer holiday coverage required
• May float to a sister rehabilitation unit, an outpatient clinic, or psychiatry (in an adjacent building); security escort provided for night-time floats to psychiatry

Requirements

• Current NY LPN/LVN license required if applicable
• Minimum 1 year of LPN experience required; med-surg background strongly preferred
• Current BLS certification (AHA) required
• De-escalation training certification required
• Phlebotomy skills required
• Experience performing EKGs required
• Allscripts EMR experience preferred
• Psych experience preferred but not required
• Ability to assess and monitor detox symptoms

Additional Information

• 5-day unit-specific floor orientation provided
• A Patient Care Manager (PCM) is on-site during business hours and available by phone during non-business hours
• No nurse aides or mental health techs on the unit
• LPNs wear Kelly Green scrubs
• Patients exhibiting psychiatric concerns are transferred to the psychiatric unit rather than managed on this unit
• First-time travelers will be considered based on experience
