American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Staff Float Pool Med/Surg position at a Level II Trauma Center in Montgomery, AL, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Surg experience and flexibility across multiple specialized units.

• 492-bed Level II Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Primary Stroke Center hospital setting in Montgomery, AL
• Float pool assignment covering multiple Med/Surg units including Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, Med/Surg Oncology, Clinical Decision, Orthopedics, and MS/Ortho/Urology
• Home unit will be assigned on the first day of orientation
• Patient populations vary by unit and include general/vascular surgery, neurological conditions (CVA, TBI, seizures, craniotomy, spinal fusion), oncology, orthopedics/spine, urology, and general Med/Surg diagnoses (COPD, CHF, sepsis, renal failure, etc.)
• Patient ratios range from 1:5 to 1:6 depending on unit assignment
• Floating required to like units (MS-to-MS, MS-to-ICU task, MS-to-ER/holds)
• 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month required
• No on-call responsibilities
• EMR: Cerner (preferred)
• IV pumps: Plum 360; Medication dispensing: Omnicell; Monitors: Spacelabs
• Telemetry is monitored by Telemetry Techs; RNs are required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours
• Scheduling is managed on a 4-week cycle using Smart Square; no self-scheduling

Requirements

• Active AL RN license or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg nursing experience required
• Skills required vary by unit and may include: wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV starts/blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG tubes, colostomy/ostomy care, PCA pumps, wound vacs, CVL dressing changes, restraints, and medication administration
• Chemo administration certification highly preferred for oncology unit assignments
• Ability to interpret and confirm telemetry strip readings
• One reference from a charge nurse or above from the past 12 months required for consideration
• SSN, DOB (day and month), and copy of current certifications required for consideration

Additional Information

• Travelers new to the facility or returning after 1+ year absence will complete 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours of on-unit orientation
• Previous permanent staff must have been separated for at least 6 months (from last shift worked) before being eligible to return as a traveler
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply with at least 18 months of Med/Surg experience
• Unit support includes CNAs (1:6 ratio), receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, hospitalist, and telemetry monitoring techs
• One major and one minor seasonal holiday coverage is expected per policy; specific holiday scheduling is not guaranteed prior to arrival
• Blackout dates apply for RTO requests around major holidays and select weekends throughout the year; exceptions require manager approval
• Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Scrub color: any color permitted
• Parking is available in the parking deck on levels 2 through 4 only
