American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PACU position at a Critical Access Hospital, requiring ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications with at least 1 year of PACU experience.

Details

• Acute care setting at a Critical Access Hospital (CAH)
• PACU unit covering Phase 1 recovery only
• 3 ORs and 2 endoscopy rooms
• Common cases include endoscopy, lap chole, hernia, hysterectomy, D&C, C-section, lap appy, open chole, open appy, ortho (total joints, ORIF, closed reduction, ACL), and ER sedated procedures across general surgery, OB/GYN, ortho, and podiatry
• 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Charting via MEDITECH
• Day shift, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM
• 8-hour shifts
• Every other weekend required
• After-hours call rotation on a 1:2 schedule; 20-minute call response time required
• Alternating holiday coverage required
• No floating required
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Current, active certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and PALS (AHA) — pending certifications not accepted
• Minimum 1 year of PACU experience required; 2 years preferred
• Previous travel nursing experience preferred
• Comfortable recovering post-anesthesia patients, calculating Aldrete scores, close patient monitoring, airway management, and responding to life-saving situations
• Ability to read cardiac strips required
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
• Cannot have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past 12 months (candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered)
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include recovering post-anesthesia patients, administering medications and treatments per policy, maintaining airway, monitoring patients closely, and responding to emergent situations per nursing standards and protocol
• OR charge nurse is present every shift
• No nurse aides in the PACU; day surgery aides are available if needed
• RT handles ventilator and advanced respiratory equipment; oxygen masks are used in the PACU
• Orientation consists of 3–5 unit-specific shifts; buddy call available when starting
• Scrubs are provided by the OR
• No self-scheduling or block scheduling; all requested time off must be noted on the contract prior to signing — additional RTO will not be approved after submission
