American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Shock Trauma PACU position in Maryland, requiring an active MD or compact RN license and specialized critical care skills including vasopressor titration and airway management.

Details

• Work in a 12-bay Shock Trauma PACU unit operating 24/7, 365 days a year
• Patient population includes adults and geriatrics undergoing scheduled or emergency surgery across more than 20 surgical and procedural services
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2
• Alternating day and night shifts: 3x12-hour days (7:00–19:00) and 3x12-hour nights (19:30–7:30)
• Weekend requirement: 3 shifts per 4-week period
• Holiday coverage required as holidays fall on the schedule
• On-call requirement: 1–2 twelve-hour call shifts per 6-week schedule (7:00–19:30 or 19:00–7:30)
• Floating required within specialty, other units, and sister facilities within scope
• 12-week contract

Requirements

• Active MD state RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
• Current certifications: BLS and ACLS
• Proficiency in vasopressor titration, airway management, care of ventilated patients, blood product administration, and fluid resuscitation
• Experience in a PACU or peri-anesthesia setting required
• Trauma experience strongly preferred given the unit's focus on traumatic injury management

Additional Information

• This is not a traditional PACU — the unit supports the Shock Trauma Center through clinical flexibility beyond standard peri-anesthesia care, including procedural space coverage and patient overflow from the Trauma Resuscitation Unit
• Provides vigilant pre- and post-operative peri-anesthesia care to both outpatients and inpatients undergoing scheduled or emergency surgery
• Nurses are expected to function with clinical flexibility outside of traditional PACU scope as needed
• RTO requests must be noted at the time of initial consideration
