American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Behavioral Health (Psychiatric) unit position at a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital, with Epic experience and inpatient psych background required.

Details

• Inpatient Behavioral Health unit in a short-term acute care hospital (1,259 beds) that is both Magnet-designated and a Level I Trauma teaching hospital
• Adult and older adult psychiatric population (18+), including patients with co-morbid medical conditions requiring a med-surg approach
• Diagnoses include dementia, depression, Parkinson's disease, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and substance use/chemical dependency
• Locked unit environment with milieu presence required
• Patient ratio of 1:6
• Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00–19:30)
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required within the behavioral health service line and to all BH units
• No on-call responsibilities
• Charting via Epic (experience required)
• Block scheduling is not available

Requirements

• Active MO RN license or compact RN license valid in Missouri required; IL candidates may submit with a pending IL license
• Current BLS and CPI certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Inpatient psychiatric and medical/psych experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Geriatric nursing experience required
• Experience with substance use and chemical dependency populations required
• Skills required: medication administration (PO, rectal, IM, IV, SQ), IV start and maintenance, blood glucose monitoring, and Foley catheter insertion and maintenance
• Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include milieu presence, restraint application, medication administration, IV starts, and charge nurse duties as needed
• Some patients require pre-op preparation for electroconvulsive therapy (ECT)
• When floating to other BH units, patient population includes older adults with medical co-morbidities and mobility issues
• Navy scrubs required
• Monthly parking passes are available through the facility's Public Safety department
• RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO during the first week of orientation
• Travelers may remain for up to 18 months, after which a 3-month break in service is required before returning
• Former permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to any facility within this health system as a traveler
• First-time travelers will be considered and are encouraged to apply as a clinical screen
