Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Neuro unit position requiring at least 2 years of experience including direct Med/Surg experience, with telemetry skills and night shift availability.

Details

• Works on a 42-bed Med/Surg Neuro unit within a hospital setting
• Patient population includes primarily stroke patients, as well as neurosurgery, epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas, and other neurological diagnoses
• Unit includes a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU); traveler training for EMU may be provided if needed
• Patient ratio is 1:6
• 12-hour night shifts (18:45–07:15), 3 shifts per week
• 36- or 48-hour weekly schedules available
• 13-week contract with potential for extension
• Every other weekend shift required
• Floating required to other Med/Surg and Telemetry areas, which may include COVID care units
• Uses Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR documentation
• 36-hour unit orientation provided

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience
• Required certifications: BLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• ACLS preferred but not required
• IV insertion and telemetry skills required
• Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias required
• Prior Med/Surg Neuro experience required
• Must have completed at least 2 successful travel contracts prior to applying — first-time travelers will not be considered
• Must pass an EKG test prior to start

Additional Information

• Local candidates are accepted
• Navy scrubs required
• No RTO is permitted after booking; any call-offs may result in contract cancellation
• No Easter RTO allowed
• If a weekend shift is missed, it must be made up based on unit needs; if RTO includes weekends, additional time may be added to the end of the contract
• If a shift is called out, it is expected to be made up within the same week or at the end of the contract
• Block scheduling is not always available
• 2 professional supervisor references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
