American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a surgical oncology facility, requiring at least 2 years of RN experience and active ACLS certification.

Details

• Mixed acuity PCU/Med-Surg unit specializing in surgical oncology in an academic cancer hospital setting
• Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses spanning surgical oncology (breast, thyroid, melanoma), hepatobiliary (liver, pancreas, spleen, biliary tract, neuroendocrine), colorectal (colon, rectal cancer), and plastics (reconstructive breast cancer or sarcoma)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio goal of 1:4, with possibility of 1:5 based on unit needs
• Shift is nights (3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30)
• Day/night rotating scheduling is available; shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on staffing priorities
• Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs
• Special procedures include chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, management of oncologic emergencies, cytokine release syndrome, insulin drips, and heparin drips
• Heavy emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
• Charting is performed in Epic

Requirements

• Active OH RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• ONS Chemotherapy certification preferred
• 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
• Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration

Additional Information

• First week of orientation is Monday–Friday on day shift; second week consists of 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor
• Self-scheduling requests are submitted for consideration prior to the final schedule being posted
• Candidates may switch representation without a 30-day break between assignments, except for Sterile Processing Technicians who still require a 30-day break
• All time-off and scheduling requests must be disclosed at the time of initial consideration
• 16-week contract
