American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric Oncology/Hematology position at a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center, requiring APHON chemotherapy certification and at least 1 year of pediatric hem/onc or pediatric acute care experience.

Details

• Work takes place on a pediatric hematology/oncology (PHO) and pediatric adolescent medicine (PA) unit within a large, 885-bed academic medical center with Level 1 Trauma designation
• PHO unit has 16 beds; PA unit has 16 beds, with an average daily census of 14–32 patients
• Patient population includes leukemia, solid tumors, sickle cell crisis, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, behavioral health overlay, and general adolescent medicine
• RN-to-patient ratios are 1:3–4 on Peds Hem/Oncology and 1:4–5 on Peds Adolescent Medicine
• 12-hour night shifts (18:30–07:00), 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• Holiday coverage is required
• Nurses float routinely between PHO and PA, as well as to other units within the pediatric hospital, excluding the Peds ED
• EMR is Epic; IV pumps are Alaris; medication dispensing via Omnicell
• Bedside telemetry monitoring available; no telemetry tech on unit

Requirements

• Active RN license — NC or compact state license required
• Current BLS certification required; PALS preferred for both PHO and PA
• APHON chemotherapy certification required for PHO assignment
• Minimum 1 year of experience in pediatric hematology/oncology acute care (PHO) or pediatric acute care (PA), with most recent experience within the last year
• Proficiency in central line management and chemotherapy administration required
• Strong pediatric assessment and critical thinking skills required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Must provide last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

• First-time travelers will be considered for this position with a strong pediatric background
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
• Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
• Department support includes CNAs, a charge nurse, receptionist/HUC, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, resource nurse (availability varies), RT (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist (24/7)
• Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Scrub color is royal blue; pediatric-appropriate scrub tops are permitted
