American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 1 year of PCU or telemetry experience and active BLS and ACLS certifications.

Details

• 56-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in a hospital setting in Rapid City, SD
• Adult patient population with a variety of diagnoses including CHF, ARF, hepatitis, ESLD, DM/DKA, pneumonia, sepsis, GI bleed, syncope, chest pain, pulmonary emboli, respiratory failure, COPD, arrhythmias, seizure disorders, overdose, and delirium tremens
• RN patient ratio of 1:4 on PCU/Tele (days and nights); CNA support at 1:8
• 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation required — every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) based on a 4-week schedule
• Floating required in rotation with other travelers to adult inpatient units including Med/Surg, Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Heart and Vascular, Oncology, ICU (depending on experience), and Observation
• Epic EMR preferred; Alaris and Omnicell also used on the unit

Requirements

• Active SD or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of PCU or telemetry RN experience required
• Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and vasoactive/cardiac drip titration (Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Levophed, and occasionally Esmolol or other beta-blockers/antihypertensives)
• Skills required include IV starts, blood product administration, CIWA protocol, drain/tube management, indwelling and straight catheter insertion/management, insulin drips (DKA and non-DKA), continuous bladder irrigation, and chest tube maintenance
• Epic EMR experience preferred; candidates without Epic experience may require additional approval
• Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
• DOB and SSN required for consideration

• First-time travelers are considered for RN positions with greater than 2 years of experience
• Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
• Previous permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning in a travel capacity
• Orientation includes 2 days of in-class/online education followed by two 12-hour preceptored shifts
• Unit support includes 2 free-floating charge nurses (24/7), CNA support, phlebotomy (24/7 for peripheral draws), a Resource/Flex RN, Respiratory Therapy (24/7), and 24/7 in-house hospitalist coverage
• Centralized telemetry monitoring available 24/7 for tele reading and alarm notifications; a Violent Incident Response team is also on site
• Providers are reached via paging system and secure chat
• The 6th floor utilizes a team nursing model pairing RNs with LPNs, with each clinician carrying their own patient load and some task-sharing within respective scopes of practice
• Monthly audits are conducted for pre/post pain scoring, with a 90% compliance requirement
• RN scrub color is navy blue
• Holiday coverage is required for every other holiday within the contracted timeframe
• RTO of up to 7 days is available; no RTO is permitted during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)
