American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN specializing in Wound/Ostomy Care for a 13-week travel contract at a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of wound and ostomy nursing experience.

Details

• Work setting is a short-term acute care hospital — a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma Center and teaching hospital with 1,273 staffed beds
• Assignment is in the dedicated Wound Care unit
• Patient population includes complex wound, ostomy, and skin integrity cases across the hospital campus
• Shift schedule is four 10-hour days (7:30–18:00), Monday through Friday
• Weekend rotation is required once every six weeks
• No nights, holidays, or on-call requirements
• Floating within scope may be required to meet facility needs
• Charting is done in Epic; experience with Epic is required
• Position requires walking the entire hospital campus throughout the day

Requirements

• Active MO RN license or Compact RN license required at time of consideration (pending IL license may be acceptable — please note at time of application)
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of wound and ostomy nursing experience required
• Proficiency in ostomy care including colostomy, ileostomy, loop with rod stoma, double barrel stoma, end stoma, mucous fistula, J-pouch, and ostomy equipment selection
• Experience with wound assessment, staging, and management including pressure ulcers (Stages I–IV), venous ulcers, neuropathic ulcers, peripheral arterial ulcers, and burns (1st–4th degree)
• Skilled in wound care modalities including wound vac therapy, vacuum-assisted closure (VAC), alginates, hydrocolloids, hydrogels, foams, silver products, enzymatic and autolytic debriding agents, and wet-to-damp dressing changes
• Experience with Braden scale assessment and prevention risk assessment tools for adults
• Familiarity with G-tube/J-tube feeding and site care, fecal incontinence programs, continence skin care management, and infection control/isolation precautions
• Epic EMR experience required
• Ability to walk the entire hospital campus throughout the shift

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include wound assessment, measurement, staging, treatment planning, and wound care recommendations and orders
• Duties also include ostomy site marking, ostomy teaching, ordering supplies, and G-tube/J-tube site care
• Provides patient and family education on wound care, ostomy management, and related topics
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and escalates assessment concerns as appropriate
• Staff education is an expected component of the role
• Scrub color required: Navy Blue

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation
• Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
• Former permanent employees of any BJC facility must wait one year before returning as a traveler
• Travelers may remain on assignment for up to 18 months, after which a 3-month break in service is required before returning
