American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardio Thoracic Unit (Telemetry) position at an acute care hospital in Illinois, requiring EKG interpretation skills and an active IL RN license.

Details

• 70-bed Cardio Thoracic Unit in an acute care hospital setting
• Patient population includes MI, CHF, A-fib, COPD, pacemaker/AICD placement, lung surgeries with chest tubes, esophagectomy (not fresh from PACU), and general med overflow
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: Days 1:4-5, Nights 1:5-6; PCT support available on all shifts
• RNs are required to titrate drips, primarily Cardizem and heparin
• Philips telemetry monitors in use; monitor techs are available, but RNs must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
• Respiratory equipment on unit includes CPAP, BiPAP (home regimen patients), and heated high flow in select circumstances
• Charting via Epic EMR
• 12-hour shifts; Day shift 0700-1930, Night shift 1900-0730
• Every other weekend required; Days: Saturday/Sunday; Nights: Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday
• Holiday rotation required — Day holidays: Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day; Night holidays: Memorial Day Eve, July 3rd, Labor Day Eve, Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve
• Floating to other general medical units may be required
• No on-call or standby requirement at this time

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required; pending licensure will not be accepted
• Active BLS (AHA) certification required; ACLS recommended
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Proficiency in EKG interpretation and medication/drip titration required
• All licenses and certifications must be active at time of consideration — pending certifications are not accepted
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Must be able to pass a drug screen; facility is a drug-free campus

Additional Information

• Cardio thoracic nursing care including management of chest tubes, post-surgical patients, and cardiac drip titration
• Charge nurse coverage 24/7 (charge rarely takes a patient assignment); house supervisor available 24/7
• Orientation is typically 1 shift or partial shift, depending on prior experience at an OSF facility
• Scrubs may be any color; cartoon or children's prints are not permitted on this adult unit
• Local candidates are welcome to apply; candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility are eligible for a local pay rate
