American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Surgical ICU position at a Level II Trauma Center in Sacramento, CA, with potential float to the Trauma ICU and night shift availability.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting at a Level II Trauma Center in the Sacramento, CA region
• Primary unit is the Surgical ICU (SICU), with float potential to the Trauma ICU (TICU) based on census
• SICU is a 10-bed unit; TICU is an 8-bed unit
• Patient ratios are 1:2 in both units, with 1:1 assignments for IABP and donor patients in the TICU
• SICU patient population includes post-op vascular, fem-pop, VATs, thoracic, and open abdominal surgeries, as well as CRRT and ECMO patients
• TICU patient population includes all trauma cases, CRRT, and rapid infuser patients; line insertions are common
• Telemetry monitoring is required; candidates must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
• Ventilator management experience is required in both units
• EMR: Cerner
• 12-hour night shifts; shift start time is 6:45 AM for report at the bedside
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday rotation with core staff required
• Travelers are first to float; floating may extend to other Sacramento area facilities, with mid-shift floats being rare but possible
• 13-week assignment

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
• Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; pending certifications not accepted
• TNCC preferred for TICU; trauma experience preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• ICU experience required, with background in surgical patients (CEA, fem-pop, EVARs, laparotomies, thoracic surgeries) strongly preferred
• Cerner EMR experience
• Ability to read and interpret EKG strips required
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered

Additional Information

• RNs must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) before an offer can be confirmed
• On the first day of orientation, RNs are given a pass/fail test on sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
• Floor-specific orientation is 1–2 days with a preceptor
• Interdisciplinary rounds are conducted on all patients during day shift in the TICU
• Charge nurses are present in both units and generally do not take patients but provide break relief
• Nurse aides are present as safety attendants (sitters) in both units
• Respiratory therapy and pharmacy support available 24/7; ICU pharmacy also open during day shift
• Self-scheduling is used, managed and balanced by the unit manager; schedules are posted 4 weeks out — travelers can view and manage availability remotely
• Scrub color: navy; undershirts must be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets are optional but must be navy if worn
