American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Mother-Baby/Couplet Care/Postpartum position at a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and major teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of RN experience and WV or Compact licensure.

Details

• 21-bed private room Mother-Baby unit within a short-term acute care, Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and Level IV NICU teaching hospital
• Cares for postpartum mothers, stable antepartum patients, and well or mildly ill newborns
• Nurses are cross-trained to work both the Mother-Baby floor and the Newborn Nursery (NBN)
• NBN scope includes management of mild RDS, newborn hypoglycemia, cardiac monitoring, phototherapy, IV antibiotics, and NAS (neonatal abstinence syndrome)
• Patient diagnoses include: postpartum, antepartum, NAS, hyperbilirubinemia, neonatal sepsis, LPI, SGA, LGA, and hypoglycemia
• Daytime shift: 3x12-hour days, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• Every other weekend required
• Patient ratios: 1:6 days / 1:8 nights
• Floating within scope to other units may be required as needed
• No on-call requirements
• Charting system: Cerner, Accudose, SBAR
• Block schedule requests are open for discussion during the interview
• Parking is complimentary for travelers in the facility garage

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required prior to start date (may be submitted with a pending license)
• Current BLS certification required; NRP and CLC preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Minimum 1 year of Mother-Baby/postpartum specialty experience required
• Experienced travelers only — first-time travelers will not be considered
• Skills required include: antepartum care, Level 1 nursery, postpartum care, NST, reflex checks/edema assessment/clonus, EFM use, blood and blood product administration, central line maintenance (CVC/PICC), peripheral IV insertion and maintenance, administration of anticonvulsants, antihypertensives, heparin, and Pitocin
• Newborn care skills required: circumcision assistance and site assessment, car seat education, cord care, discharge teaching, infant identification, IV antibiotics, metabolic screening, NAS management, newborn assessment, phototherapy, and thermoregulation
• Two manager or charge nurse references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
• Driver's license and SSN card required for consideration
• Flu vaccine required during flu season (October 1 – March 31); a documented medical allergy verified by a physician or allergist is the only accepted exemption
• Clean RN license required; licenses with hits submitted on a case-by-case basis

Additional Information

• The unit delivers approximately 2,800 patients per year and is supported by two full-time certified lactation specialists
• Team structure includes a Nurse Manager, Clinical Management Coordinator, four permanent Charge Nurses, RNs, LPNs, Nurse Externs, a Health Unit Coordinator, and Nursing Assistants
• Orientation is held every other week on Thursday and Friday, followed by unit reporting
• Royal blue and/or white scrubs required
• COVID vaccination is not required
• Candidates who were previously permanent employees at this facility must have been separated for at least 2 years before being eligible to return as a traveler
• No RTO restrictions; time-off requests should be discussed during the interview process
• This is a major teaching hospital and member of the Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems (COTH)
• Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility; those residing between 75–99 miles may be submitted for facility approval
