American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Float Pool position at a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma Center academic health system in Madison, WI, requiring at least 2 years of recent acute care experience and Epic proficiency.

Details

• Evening/night shifts (1900–0730) on 12-hour schedules
• Every other weekend rotation required
• Holiday coverage required as applicable to unit operations
• Float Pool position covering multiple Med/Surg and Intermediate Care (IMC) units across the health system
• Patient populations include cardiac, spine, neuro, oncology, orthopedic, and general medical/surgical cases
• Telemetry monitoring required on the unit
• Epic EMR required
• Travelers are first priority for floating and may be scheduled across multiple units or locations based on staffing needs; if the primary unit no longer has a need, shifts will be reassigned to another unit for the duration of the contract

Requirements

• Active WI RN license or compact RN license from permanent address state, must be in hand at time of consideration
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required
• Minimum 2 years of acute care inpatient RN experience within the last 3 years, specifically in Med/Surg or Telemetry
• Experience working across multiple Med/Surg unit types (cardiac, spine, neuro) required
• Basic arrhythmia interpretation experience required
• Epic EMR experience required, preferably within the last 12 months
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Trauma Level I or II experience preferred
• Floating experience preferred
• Permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility

• Float across general care and IMC units, providing evidence-based care to complex medical and surgical patient populations
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including nurses, nursing assistants, therapists, advanced practice providers, and medical staff
• Opportunities to serve as a preceptor for new nurses and students and to participate in quality improvement and Shared Governance initiatives
• A telemetry exam is required prior to start — candidates must pass with 80% or higher, achieve 100% identification of lethal rhythms on the adult exam, and have no incorrect answers on 3rd degree heart block questions; candidates have up to two attempts to pass
• Orientation is approximately one week and is held every other week at the facility's main campus
• RTO is generally limited to no more than 2 weeks off per contract; requests exceeding 1 consecutive week may result in a contract extension
