American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital, caring for cardiothoracic/vascular surgical and step-down progressive care patients.

• Night shift (7p-7a) and day shift (7a-7p) available on a 6-week scheduling cycle
• 24-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit consistently at full census
• Primary patient population includes cardiothoracic and vascular surgical patients requiring pre- and post-operative step-down progressive care
• Secondary population includes cardiology, pulmonology, and general medical/surgical patients, including pre/post-LVAD patients and those with acute or chronic conditions and common comorbidities (diabetes, hypertension, CHF, infections, electrolyte imbalances)
• RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6, supported by LPNs and 2–3 CNAs per shift
• Specialized procedures include trach care, chest tube management, insulin and heparin drips, Glucommander, titrated drips, central line management, wound care, and PCA pain management
• EMR: Epic (experience required)
• Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips monitors, Dynamap portable vital sign monitors, bladder scanners, and a centralized telemetry monitoring unit
• Weekend rotation: 5–6 shifts per 6-week schedule
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Floating required to all adult med/surg and telemetry units within the facility

Requirements

• Active GA or Compact RN license currently in hand
• Required certifications: BLS, Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR), ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Medical-Surgical national certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience; most recent experience must be within the last year
• Experience in a Level 1 Trauma and academic teaching hospital setting required
• Proficiency with telemetry interpretation and cardiac monitoring
• Experience with trach care, chest tube management, IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, and post-op monitoring
• Experience with insulin drips, heparin drips, and titrated drips
• Epic EMR experience required
• At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the past year required for consideration
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

• Level 1 Trauma Center and academic teaching hospital with 637 licensed beds, a Chest Pain Center, and a Stroke Center
• Interdisciplinary support includes CNAs, a unit secretary (7a–11p), charge nurses, a PICC team, discharge/resource nurses, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), intensivist (24/7), and a central telemetry monitoring unit
• Orientation consists of 1 day of general hospital orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
• Holiday coverage requires working one shift of each major holiday grouping: Thanksgiving or the day after, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve or New Year's Day
• Time-off requests require manager approval
• RN scrub color is navy blue
