American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital specializing in renal and nephrology patients, with a night or day shift schedule.

• 20-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma and academic teaching hospital with a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
• Primary patient population includes acute and chronic kidney disease (including ESRD and hemodialysis), peritoneal dialysis, post-op urology and renal surgeries, and common med-surg comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances
• Patient ratios: RN 1:4–6, supported by LPN 1:4–6 and 1–2 CNAs per shift
• Shift options: 7A–7P or 7P–7A on a 6-week scheduling cycle
• Weekend rotation: 5–6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Travelers are expected to work approximately 75% of major holidays; specific coverage includes Thanksgiving Day or the day after, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve or New Year's Day
• Floating required to all adult Med/Surg and Telemetry units within the facility
• EMR: Epic (experience noted)
• Equipment used includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips monitors, VS3 and Dynamap vital sign monitors, Glucommander, PCA pain management, bladder scanners, suction machines, and peritoneal dialysis equipment (HomeChoice cycler)

Requirements

• Active GA or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS and Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) certifications required
• ACLS preferred; Medical-Surgical (CMSRN) or Nephrology Nursing (CNN) national certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg or Telemetry RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Proficiency in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, Glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and drips titrated to heart rate
• Experience with IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, post-op monitoring, and cardiac telemetry interpretation
• 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required for consideration
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide nursing care to a complex renal patient population, including management of peritoneal dialysis (manual and cycler); training provided if needed
• Support staff includes CNAs, a unit secretary (on unit 7A–11P, house-wide call secretary 11P–7A), a charge nurse, a PICC team, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and intensivists — all available 24/7
• Central Telemetry Unit provides remote telemetry monitoring support
• Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules and 2 days of departmental orientation
• RTO requests require manager approval
• Navy scrubs required for RNs
• Unit culture is described as busy but collaborative and team-oriented
• Candidates who previously held a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
