American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Cardiovascular OR position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring CVOR experience with the ability to scrub and circulate pediatric open-heart cases.

Details

• Work in a 28-bed OR department (including 2 hybrid CV/Vascular rooms) at a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center
• High-volume unit averaging 60–75 cases per day across a broad range of specialties including general, GYN, urology, robotics, vascular, ortho, neuro, open hearts/CABG, and transplant (kidney and heart)
• Approximately 20% pediatric case mix, including open hearts, appendectomies, and cholecystectomies; no liver or lung transplants
• Hybrid room handles 5–10 adult cases per day including TAVR, AAA, endarterectomies, angiograms, and fistula revisions
• Unit participates in Gifts of Hope donor cases
• OR operates 24/7, 365 days a year; standard hours are Mon–Fri 0730–2300, Sat–Sun 0700–1700, with a skeleton crew for trauma and urgent cases outside those hours
• Shift options include 10-hour days (0645–1515), 12-hour nights, and various mixed configurations; RT/Hybrid runs Mon–Thurs on 8- or 10-hour shifts
• Schedule is rotation-based on a 6-week cycle; provided 2–4 weeks in advance with no self-scheduling
• Every 4th weekend rotation (Saturday–Sunday)
• On-call required: 1 shift per week and 1 weekend (Friday through Monday morning) per month, totaling approximately 125 hours; 30-minute response time required
• 1 holiday required per contract
• No floating required
• EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis

Requirements

• Active Illinois (IL) RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2–3 years of acute care OR/CVOR experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Ability to scrub and circulate pediatric open-heart cases required
• Critical care experience required
• Level I Trauma center experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required for consideration

• Scrubs are provided by the facility

• Orientation begins with meeting educators and the ANM, obtaining login access, completing online modules, and Epic training, followed by 2 days of unit orientation
• Department support includes a charge nurse (no patient assignment Mon–Fri), resource nurse, anesthesiologist at bedside, surgeons with preference cards, ANM, educators, service line reps, and an Epic super-user
• A sleeping room is available for on-call team members
• All time-off requests must be submitted via email to the designated scheduling contact
