American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Pulmonary Unit position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital, requiring at least 2 years of experience and rotating day/night shifts.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting with Level I Trauma designation and Magnet recognition
• 30-bed Med/Surg unit combined with an 8-bed progressive care (IMC) unit focused on pulmonary patient care
• Patient diagnoses include pneumonia, COPD, CHF, COVID-19, and pulmonary embolism, as well as complex cases requiring advanced respiratory and cardiac monitoring
• Procedures and therapies include oxygen therapy, IV medications, moderate sedation monitoring during bronchoscopies, chest tube care, tracheostomy care, postoperative care, non-invasive ventilation (BiPAP/CPAP), mechanical ventilation, and heated high-flow oxygen
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3 in the IMC/Progressive Care area; 1:4–5 on day shifts and 1:5–6 on night shifts in the Med/Surg area
• EMR: Epic (documentation); Alaris pumps for IV fluids; Acudose for medication management
• 12-hour shifts on a rotating day/night schedule
• Every other weekend required
• Every other holiday required
• Floating to Med/Surg units is required; travelers are the first to be reassigned to another department
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active SD or compact state RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS (both AHA) required; specialty certification (e.g., PCCN or CMSRN) preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Proficiency with BiPAP, CPAP, heated high-flow oxygen, oxygen titration, moderate sedation monitoring, telemetry, and Med/Surg patient care required
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Two current professional references required: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and one from a peer or supervisor in the same specialty within the last 3 years
• Active certifications required at time of consideration (no pending certifications accepted)

Additional Information

• Structured 3-day orientation: Day 1 includes competency validation with Nurse Educators covering telemetry and mechanical ventilation, online modules, and self-assessments (0700–1930); Day 2 includes a preceptored shift with patient care, unit tour, and POCT testing; Day 3 is an independent 12-hour shift on the unit
• RNs advocate for patient safety, develop critical thinking and time management skills, and support seamless transitions to higher levels of respiratory care
• The unit fosters a supportive, family-oriented culture where staff ideas are valued and high performers are recognized
• Opportunities to participate in unit or house-wide committees (Patient Experience, Performance Improvement, Ethics, etc.) and pursue board certifications
• Navy blue scrubs required
• All candidates must badge in and out at the facility
• Candidates who have previously worked at any Sanford Health location must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their consideration date
