American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a cardio-pulmonary focused academic teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 18 months of experience and Cerner proficiency.

Details

• 32-bed mixed model unit with 15 PCU beds and 17 Med-Surg beds, with a cardio-pulmonary emphasis on pulmonary care
• Primary patient population includes cardiac medical, valve replacement (cardiac and pulmonary), COPD, CHF, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, lung transplant (pre and post), trach-to-vent, neurodegenerative diseases, cervical spinal fracture trauma, flu, and TB
• PCU patient ratio is 1:4; Med-Surg ratio is 1:5-6; mixed PCU/Med-Surg assignments may range from 4-5 patients depending on resource staff skill sets
• Travelers may be expected to float to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) at both University and Methodist Hospital campuses
• Day shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00–19:30
• Every other weekend required; consecutive weekends may be required based on operational needs
• Cerner EMR charting required

Requirements

• Active IN or Compact RN license currently in hand
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications required (AHA or RQI accepted)
• Minimum 18 months to 2 years of RN experience required; Med-Surg RNs with ICU and PCU patient experience may be considered with two additional years of experience
• Cerner EMR experience required
• Graduation from a nursing program accredited by ACEN or CCNE required
• COVID vaccine required; medical or religious exemptions accepted with documentation
• IN RN license holders are not eligible for this position (PCU); this restriction does not apply to Periop, Allied, or Ambulatory RN travelers

Additional Information

• Academic teaching facility — all travel nurses must be willing to precept and/or have students shadow them during their assignment
• Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned based on operational needs; training and resources will be provided
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates are not accepted for this position
• Former permanent or PRN employees of IU Health must have a 12-month separation before being considered as a traveler
• Up to 5 days of RTO can be auto-approved
• Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
