American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/HVU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring cardiac step-down experience and a SD or compact RN license.

• Mixed acuity unit encompassing Intermediate Care, Telemetry, and Med/Surg patients in a 44-bed Heart and Vascular Unit (HVU)
• Patient population includes direct admits, ED admits, post-cath lab, MI/NSTEMI/STEMI, CHF, dysrhythmia management, pacemaker malfunction, epicardial pacers, and post-cardiac/vascular surgical patients (CABG, TAVR, EP studies, pacemaker insertion)
• Unit also serves as a backup Stroke unit and Medical Overflow
• RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4, with the possibility of 1:3 depending on acuity
• 12-hour day shifts, 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation every other weekend
• Holiday coverage required on a rotating basis
• No on-call requirements
• Floating may occur to the sister General PCU unit, Med/Surg Telemetry, or ICU (for PCU-level patients only), within scope of practice
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris infusion pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing
• Epic experience preferred; candidates without Epic experience may require additional approval

Requirements

• Active RN license — SD license or Compact RN license currently in hand required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 1.5 years of general nursing experience required
• PCU or step-down level RN experience required
• Experience with cardiac procedural recovery (CABG, TAVR, post-cardiac cath) required
• Proficiency with titratable cardiac/vasoactive drips (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Levophed, Dopamine) and Heparin drips required
• Cardiac rhythm interpretation and chest tube management experience required
• MI pharmacology knowledge required
• TNK administration experience preferred
• Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
• DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Unit support includes CNAs (1:5–8 ratio), an unassigned charge nurse, phlebotomy services, Respiratory Therapy (24/7), Tele techs who oversee cardiac monitoring (RN confirms strips at 6a & 6p), and hospitalist coverage in-facility 24/7
• Orientation consists of 2 partial days of education followed by 3 supervised 12-hour shifts on the unit
• First-time travelers are considered with a minimum of 2 years of experience
• Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
• Former permanent staff must wait 1 full year before returning as a traveler
• RTO of up to 7 days is permitted; candidates who wish to take a full week off must agree to extend their contract
• No time off is approved during the first 3 weeks of August (Sturgis Motorcycle Rally period)
• Navy blue scrubs required
