American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Stepdown (CVU) position at a Level 1 Trauma facility, requiring at least 1 year of cardiac/vascular stepdown experience and active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Details

• Acute care stepdown unit (CVU) in a Level 1 Trauma hospital setting
• 18-bed unit specializing in intermediate care and downgraded CVICU patients, supporting thoracic, EP, cath lab, and structural heart programs
• Common diagnoses include Cath Lab patients, CVAs, CHF, A-fib RVR, and other cardiac and vascular conditions
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, with 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours
• RNs are required to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Nicardipine, Epinephrine, Cardizem, and other blood pressure management medications
• Remote telemetry techs on unit; RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips
• Respiratory therapy available 24/7; equipment includes BiPAP, CPAP, and Nasal Cannula
• Hospitalist and Intensivist in house 24/7; Cardiology on call after hours
• Charge nurse on each shift — rarely takes an assignment
• Nurse aides/patient care techs available at a 1:18 ratio
• 12-hour day shifts, 0630-1900
• Every other weekend required
• Float requirement to all same-level and lower-acuity units
• No on-call or standby requirement
• EMR: Epic

Requirements

• Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required — pending certifications not accepted
• Minimum 1 year of experience with cardiac/vascular stepdown patient population required
• Minimum 2 years of overall RN experience required
• BSN not required
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
• Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Unit is currently operating under Crisis Protocol
• Orientation is tailored to individual experience, typically 1–2 shifts on the unit, followed by a pass/fail open-book exam on orientation Friday — a minimum score of 90% is required to pass
• Schedule is manager-assigned; no block or self-scheduling
• Artificial nails are strictly prohibited in all patient care areas — refusal to remove will result to contract termination
• Navy blue scrubs required
• RTO must be requested upfront; no more than 7 days per 13-week contract — additional RTO will not be approved after consideration
