American Traveler is hiring an experienced OR RN for a 13-week travel assignment at an acute care hospital in West Virginia, requiring a minimum of 2-3 years of OR experience and prior travel assignments.

Details

• Work setting is an acute care hospital Operating Room with 14 suites averaging 28 cases per day (including add-on and SDS cases)
• Common case types include neuro spine, total joints, open fractures, general surgery, and ENT; no open heart or vascular cases at this time
• Patient ratio is 1:1 in the OR
• Charting is done in Epic
• Shifts are 12 hours (evenings), scheduled Monday–Friday, 11:00 AM–11:30 PM
• One weekend day on-call (7a–7p) per month is required
• One weeknight on-call (7p–7a) per week is required
• Holiday call rotation required as needed
• Floating to outpatient surgery required as needed
• No floating to other units within the main OR
• On-call response time is 20 minutes; candidates who live more than 20 minutes from the facility may be required to stay on-site during on-call shifts
• OR techs are present; charge nurse coverage runs 7a–7p and will circulate cases as needed
• Respiratory therapy is in-house 24/7 and manages vent patients in the OR and PACU
• Pharmacy is available 24/7 with Omnicell

Requirements

• Active WV RN license or a Compact RN license (currently in hand or candidate must be willing to obtain)
• Current BLS (AHA) certification required; ACLS and PALS also required
• Minimum 2–3 years of OR experience required
• 2–3 prior travel assignments required
• Ortho/neuro OR experience preferred
• Scrubbing ability is a plus but not required
• A valid, unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
• Candidate's driver's license address must reflect a residence more than 50 miles from the facility

Additional Information

• Circulating in the OR is the primary responsibility; scrubbing is a plus but not required
• OR techs are responsible for turning over rooms, as there are no aides or housekeeping on the unit
• Scrubs are provided for RN staff
• RNs are not required to interpret telemetry strips; anesthesia handles telemetry monitoring in the OR
• Orientation consists of 3 shifts
• No holiday shifts are required (call rotation only)
• Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Candidates who have worked within the WVU system for a cumulative total of one year must take a 2-year break before returning
• First-time travelers are not encouraged, as 2–3 prior travel assignments are required
