American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Behavioral Health/Psychiatric Unit position requiring an MD or Compact RN license, CPI certification, and experience with acute psych populations including pediatric through geriatric patients.

Details

• Work in a 7-bed locked inpatient Behavioral Health Unit (5 adult, 2 pediatric beds)
• Patient population spans pediatric through geriatric age ranges with diagnoses including acute psychosis, hallucinations, suicidal/homicidal ideation (SI/HI), major depressive disorder, personality and mood disorders, and involuntary/voluntary commitments
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3, up to 1:4
• Average daily census of 7 patients
• Unit involves use of mechanical, physical, and chemical restraints, including with adolescents aged 13 and older
• Day shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (0730–2000)
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage required as shifts fall on the schedule
• Floating required within the behavioral health specialty, including inpatient BHU, ED (BH support only), and a secondary campus as needed
• No pre-scheduled on-call required
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active RN license in Maryland (MD state license) or a Compact RN license currently in hand
• Required certifications: BLS and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)
• Preferred certifications: PALS, ACLS, and Certified Behavioral Health (CBH)
• Minimum 1 year of experience in behavioral health/psychiatric nursing required; 2 years preferred
• Candidates with 1 year of experience must demonstrate strong behavioral health skills and experience to be considered
• Experience working with acute psychiatric populations, including pediatric through geriatric patients
• Comfort and experience with restraint application (mechanical, physical, and chemical)

• Provide direct nursing care to patients with complex psychiatric diagnoses in a secure, locked two-entry unit
