American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a combined SCU/Telemetry unit at a Critical Access Hospital, requiring at least 2 years of experience and night shift availability.

Details

• Combined SCU/Telemetry unit in an acute care, Critical Access Hospital (CAH) setting
• 10-bed unit with 5 ICU beds and 5 Telemetry beds
• Diverse patient population including ventilated, surgical, trauma, COPD, OD, and bowel obstruction cases; unit has also served as a COVID unit
• Patient ratios of 1:3–5 depending on acuity
• Philips Cardiac Monitors in use; monitor techs are stationed at the nurses station in the ICU; 5 hard-wired ICU rooms and telemetry packs available
• Manages drips, vents, BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow oxygen
• Hospitalist in-house 7am–5pm; family medicine resident covers after hours
• RT available in-house 24/7; no dedicated IV team
• 12-hour night shifts, 7pm–7am
• 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule (Fri/Sat for nights)
• Holiday rotation shared with permanent staff
• Charting is done in Epic
• Travelers may be required to float to Med/Surg with a 1:5–6 patient ratio, though floating is rare

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and PALS
• NIHSS certification is a plus
• Epic EMR experience strongly preferred
• ICU and/or telemetry nursing experience required
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for the travel pay rate
• A valid, unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
• COVID vaccination required; medical or religious exemption requests must be submitted and approved prior to start

Additional Information

• One orientation shift on the unit with a preceptor is provided
• Travelers are not permitted to self-schedule but block scheduling can be accommodated based on unit needs
• EKG testing is required for this unit and is pass/fail
• Navy blue scrubs are required and must be provided by the traveler; jackets in navy, grey, or black are permitted (no sweatshirts or hoodies); hair must be a natural color; excessive or distasteful tattoos must be covered
• A positive attitude and willingness to adapt to unit needs is expected
• Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before applying
• Travelers who have worked within the WVU system for a cumulative year must also take a 2-year break before returning
• Two references are required for consideration: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
